Gina
204th Meeting of the AAS, Denver, May 2004
THE AAS
- 1 part Absolut® Vodka
- 1.5 parts Apple Pucker Schnapps
- Salt or Sugar for the rim
This was the first featured "Cocktail Special" at an Out of the Rain
Productions® party. Gina prefers a salted rim, but normal people
like it sugared. And just in case you didn't notice, the parts spell AAS.
The two A's were easy, but Jake and Gina were stumped by that S for quite
some time. It was Jake's clever idea to sugar the rim. Party Schlogger Ed
was the only person to guess what the S stood for before the party.

205th Meeting of the AAS, San Diego, January 2005
THE LANDOLT STANDARD
- 2 parts mango rum
- 2 parts pineapple rum
- 1 part triple sec
- 3 parts cranberry juice
- 3 parts pineapple juice
- a wedge of pineapple for garnish
This cocktail was created in honor of a very special regular, and just
about longest running attendee, Arlo Landolt. This was his last meeting
as secretary of the AAS. Many a graduate student has told Gina that Arlo
was their favorite party guest ever, and that they couldn't believe such a
celebrity would deign to attend such a function. But that's Arlo. Gina
would call him just about the sweetest man in the world. So, raise a
glass, and send a cheer. We love you, Arlo!!

206th Meeting of the AAS, Minneapolis, May 2005
THE 206
- 2 parts coconut rum
- 3 parts cranberry juice
- a wedge of lime for garnish
So named because this was the 206th meeting of the AAS. The 206 was
Emilie's creation, and was hugely enjoyed by AAS past President Bob
Kirsher (also a regular and beloved party-goer). Well, at least we think he
enjoyed them since he was drinking two while adlibbing a little rap
praising Carl Heiles. There is the possibility that Bob wasn't exactly
rapping the praises of Carl, but just rapping the same question that
everyone at the party was asking: "Why's Carl, Carl on the video?
That's Carl, Carl on the video." We had been gifted with a copy of
the video Carl's wife (and an artist of many media) had made in honor of
Carl's 65th birthday, and we played it on all the big screens in the club.
Thanks for the song, Bob! We only wish we had a video of you singing it
to send back to Carl...

117th Meeting of the ASP, Tucson, September 2005
THE REACH OUT
- 2 parts Southern Comfort®
- 2 parts peach liqueur
- 2 parts amaretto almond liqueur
- 2 parts sloe gin
- 1 part orange juice
- 1 part sweet and sour mix
- a round of lime for garnish
This cocktail was created for our first ASP party. The meeting was in
Tucson, so the cocktail probably should have had tequila in it, but this
was just sooooooo good. Mad props to the bartender (who really could
dance) for helping us create it.

207th Meeting of the AAS, DC, January 2006
THE SNARE
- 2 parts vodka
- 1 part peach schnapps
- 3 parts cranberry juice
- a cherry for garnish
Mmmmm mmmm mmmmm.... Snares at the Tom Tom... These were juicy good!!
And seemed to really relax the crowd. Who would have ever thought a day
would come when 300 astronomers would keep the dance floor hoppin' all
night long? Or when 800 astronomers would take over a two-floor dance
club? We did!! We did!!

208th Meeting of the AAS, Calgary, Alberta, Canada, June
2006
THE 607
- 2 parts citrus (lemon) vodka
- 1 part blue caraço
- 3 parts cranberry juice
So, in the spirit of the day (The party was the day after June 2006, 6
[666]..? You know..? June 2006, 7 [667]..?), Just Jake suggested we create
a suitable cocktail: dark, smooth, oh so enticing, and ooooooh soooooo
evil (Okay, well, maybe not so evil.). And as Ed "The Big Guy"
and Cocktail Mixmeister Gina sat at lunch their first day in Calgary (enjoying
a pitcher of Mojitos, by the by), they took this challenge seriously. Gina
declared that, no matter what, the cocktail would not be red. Red had
totally been over represented in their drink repertoire thus far, as far
as she was concerned. So, what was evil? Oh, wait, not evil. Dark,
smooth, enticing..? Green? Blue? Purple!!! After many a shuffle of the
deck of cards, (This is another story for another time..) the Big Guy and
Gina Came up with this deep, dark draught. But the funny thing was that
when Gina met with the club mixologist to show him their recipe, it turned
out to already be the house signature cocktail - on the menu and
everything! Spooky? A coincidence? Kismet? Evil itself? (Right, right.
Not evil. Not evil). No, it was just really good inspiration from Just
Jake! Thanks, Just Jake! And good work getting all your beer glasses
home (yet another story for another time...)
