Jonathan's Space Report No. 810 2022 Sep 26 Somerville, MA ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- International Space Station --------------------------- Expedition 67 continues with Oleg Artem'ev, Denis Matveev, Sergey Korsakov, Kjell Lindgren, Robert Hines, Samantha Cristoforetti, and Jessica Watkins aboard the ISS. On Sep 2 astronauts Artem'ev and Matveev carried out spacewalk VKD-54a, continuing the outfitting of the European robot arm on the Nauka module. The hatch was open at 1325 UTC and closed at 2113 UTC. On Sep 6 the JRMS robot arm extracted the Nanoracks NRCSD-23 cubesat deployer from the Kibo airlock. NRCSD-23 ejected five cubesats. On Sep 15 at 1810 UTC the Progress MS-20 cargo ship fired its engines to raise the ISS orbit slightly; delta-V was 0.2 m/s. Soyuz MS-22 'Tsiolkovskiy' was launched on Sep 21 from Baykonur with crew Sergey Prokop'ev, Dmitriy Petelin and Frank Rubio. It docked with the Rassvet module at 1706 UTC. Chinese Space Station ---------------------- On Sep 1 astronauts Chen and Liu made a spacewalk from the airlock on the new Wentian module. They installed a new cooling pump on Wentian and carried out other outfitting tasks; the hatch was open from 1026 to 1633 UTC. On Sep 17 Chen and Cai spacewalked from Wentian to carry out more outfitting of the new module. The hatch was open from 0535 to 0947 UTC. Starlink -------- Starlink Group 4-23 (54 satellites) was launched on Aug 28 from Cape Canaveral. Starlink Group 3-4 (46 satellites) was launched on Aug 31 from Vandenberg. Starlink Group 4-20 (51 satellites) was launched on Sep 5 from Canaveral. The Spaceflight Sherpa-LTC-2 satellite with the Boeing Varuna V-band demo payload was also deployed as a rideshare. Starlink Group 4-2 (34 satellites) flew on Sep 11 from Kennedy Space Center with AST Space Mobile's 1500 kg BlueWalker 3 test satellite as a rideshare. Starlink Group 4-34 (54 satellites) was launched on Sep 19 from Canaveral. Starlink Group 4-35 (52 satellites) was launched on Sep 24 from Canaveral. SAST launches -------------- SAST launched a CZ-4C from Jiuquan on Sep 2, placing the second YG-33 radar satellite in orbit. A CZ-2D launched from Xichang on Sep 6 placed the fifth YG-35 triplet in orbit. A CZ-2D launched from Jiuquan on Sep 20 orbited the third Yunhai-1 GNSS-RO meteorology satellite. CALT launches --------------- A CZ-7A launched from Wenchang on Sep 13 placed ZX-1E in geotransfer orbit. ZX-1E is probably a cover name for a Fenghuo-2 military communications satellite. EXPACE ------ A KZ-1A rocket launched on Sep 6 from Jiuquan put the Centispace `Weili Kongjian' satellites 3 and 4 in orbit. These `GNSS augmentation' satellites provide positioning services. Ariane VA258 ------------ On Sep 7 Arianespace launched Ariane 5 vehicle L5117, flight VA258. The rocket placed the Eutelsat Konnect Very High Throughput Satellite (VHTS) in geotransfer orbit. VHTS is a 6500 kg Thales Alenia Spacebus NEO-200 satellite with a Ka-band commmunications payload and an electric propulsion system. Delta 4H --------- ULA launched a Delta 4 Heavy from Vandenberg Space Force Base on Sep 24, placing a National Reconnaissance Office spy satellite in low Earth orbit. Electron --------- A Rocket Lab Electron was launched from Mahia on Sep 15 and placed the StriX-1 radar satellite in orbit for the Japanese company Synspective. The launch follows two earlier prototypes, StriX-Alpha and StriX-Beta. Shiyan 14/15 ------------ Two Chinese government satellites were launched on Sep 24 on a KZ-1A from Taiyuan. Shiyan 14 has a technology payload and Shiyan 15 has an imaging payload. DART ---- Italy's LICIACube cubesat separated from NASA's DART probe at 2314 UTC on Sep 11. Both LICIACube and DART are in a 0.94 x 1.07 AU x 3.8 deg heliocentric orbit, on course for the Didymos system. DART is scheduled to impact the Didymos moon, Dimorphos, on Sep 26. LICIACube will perform a flyby and image the impact aftermath. LICIACube has not yet received a US Space Force catalog number.
